Confession!

A long time ago, I joined the Swoonalong Flickr group. Not with any intention of making actually making anything, just so I could sit back and envy enjoy what everyone else was doing.
I bought the pattern. I bought it coz I thought that if I didn't have it, I would want to make it. I mean, it is a really lovely quilt that Camille has designed. Gorgeous. I didn't think it was really my style of thing to make and I am hopeless, I mean,  really hopeless at following quilt patterns. Don't get them at all.
Anyway, last week I got a surprise package in the mail. Some Joel Dewberry Heirloom Collection. I don't remember ordering that. Not in three colour ways (are there more or only three? Not sure). Anyway, it isn't really something that I would normally order either. Loads of pinks and purples. What was I going to do with it?
Then I had a light bulb moment!

I would Swoon with it!
Instantly I was excited and knew they were meant to go together!  So I've put together my colours and made one block. Took me two days (I told you I'm hopeless at reading patterns). In the end it came together quickly. It is a lovely BIG block and I'm hooked! Can't wait to make more! (Oh, and I'm hoping now I've done one, the others will be easier!)

The Donkeys are Done

Another quilt finished and off the list

I started this one in November last year. Wow, I didn't realize it was that long ago. Oh well, finished now!

It sat basted waiting for quilting for about 3 weeks while I decided on my options. Then, all of a sudden, I just decided to hand quilt it and I'm glad I did. It has that lovely soft drape and the colours almost glow off the grey sashing.

I used one of my favourite DS Quilts fabrics for the back (from good ole Spotlight). I really like the binding too, though I have no idea where it is from coz I'd cut the selvedges off  when I was making another quilt! I think it matches really well.
I gave it to a friend as a 'Thank You/Birthday' gift. She loves donkeys and helped my hubby with my foal when he was born and I was away. She saved his life really and I hope this quilt in some way says Thank you enough.

Finally finished!

I have finally finished the wedding quilt I started in January. Thank goodness, toward the end I was over it. Funny coz I thought I'd be thrilled with it, but I'm not. Don't get me wrong, I like it, and I'm happy with it but I'm not loving it. Know what I mean?

It's a pretty large 177cm x 177cm (70in x 70in). The block inspiration came from Sweetwater's Simple Home book. A lovely book, I must add.
I love Joel's Modern Meadow and I think it lends itself to those blocks perfectly.
I hope the dairy farmers love it!!

A new winner

Well just briefly, thanks to those who took the time to enter my little giveaway. Unfortunately Kiwicris did not come forth and claim her prize so a new winner was picked. Congratulations to Lydia from LittleKiwi Baby Products! Your prize is on it's way!

On the quilting/sewing front, seems I totally underestimated the amount of time it would take to hand quilt a small queen/large double bed size quilt! Fortunately the dairy farmers are happy to wait for it! I've only got one side left to sew the binding down on so I could be done tonight!
I also received my order of  Patty Sloniger's new Backyard Baby boys prints which I couldn't resist. As soon as I opened the mail on Friday I started cutting and sewing. I'm a bit sad I missed a couple of prints and I think I should have ordered more. Here's a peek

I'm also trying to get 8 seat cushions done for my MIL's birthday next week. Would have been easy but I decided to add some ties so takes a bit longer. More of those later.

Terrorizing the neighbors!

Those piglets are up to no good!

They sneak out under the gate

leave their mum behind (with 10 kids she probably doesn't mind the peace!)

And gang up on anything and everyone!

They had us in stitches with all ten chasing poor old Indy around the yard!

They are pretty funny!

P.s. Kiwicris has not contacted me regarding her prize so I will draw another winner this arvo :)

Giveaway

I'm giving away this fabulous boys book bag today. It''' hold lots of books for school as it's nice and big and strong. For your chance to win it, be a Monkeysinmypocket Blog follower or Facebook Page Liker, leave a comment here about your little ones first day at school, or your own first day at school.

A winner will be drawn and announced tomorrow (Friday) night.  GOOD LUCK!

First day of Kindy

Well, today my eldest went off to Kindy. In the lead up he kept telling me that he was a bit nervous, but I think that all disappeared as soon as we walked in to the school ground this afternoon.
He wouldn't let me take any photos of him in his uniform so I can't even show you how cute he looked in his black shorts and white t'shirt (crazy for Kindy kids I know!).
While I was talking to one of the teachers he came over and said he had to give me a kiss coz the other teacher said it was time for the mums to go now. And with that he was gone! He had the best time and can't wait to go again tomorrow!
And speaking of tomorrow...
To celebrate the first day of Kindy, I'm going to giveaway one of these great library bags I made.

Not this exact one (coz this is Williams), but a Dig It one with plain orange lining. It is a great size - almost 50cm x 50cm. William loves this and can't wait to bring books home in it.
So, all you have to do is TOMORROW leave me a comment about one of your kids first day at school (or your own if you remember it!) and I will use the good ol' Random generator thingy to pick a winner.
I'll remind you again TOMORROW!
